Re: fan characters
oftenretold replied to your post:
I have a question about a potential grey area: fanmade characters. I have trouble discerning whether or not they violate copyright because the characters were created by someone else, but use MSPA concepts and ideas.
To me, that is definitely a grey area, and I am not a copyright lawyer, or even well-versed in the legalities beyond the basic creator’s...
marelo asked: I've got a question that would probably be better directed to Andrew, but I have a feeling sheer volume will make getting an answer from him extremely difficult right now. So instead, I wonder if you could clarify whether you think Andrew would issue permission for an artist to do commissions of HS material on an ongoing basis, instead of needing a request for each individual work.

does hussie really want all these artists asking him permission though? that seems like it’d be a waste of his time. i guess it depends on how he’s going to respond to things,
though.
The email deluge was a known hazard of making this stance (which was always extant!) official. It was definitely discussed; I can only...
My lord, what is the big deal?
Profiting off a living artist’s intellectual property is theft. For me, this is not a moral grey area. Copyright law, particularly in the US, has become byzantine and long been warped out of its original purpose, but that purpose was to allow an artist to make a living off their own works, and that is something I can very much get behind.
This isn’t even really much of an...

Could be wrong, NAS, but I think you mean that bees can see ultraviolet light, at the cost...

derpydoop.
this week, I have
- travelled 700km, around 90 of them by bike
- attended four birthday parties, two thesis submission parties and the start of one birth
- drunk roughly 5 litres of wine and champagne (the latter mostly in the form of toasts to Moldova’s Eurovision entry)
- written a paper for Applied Optics (one must work on occasion)
… and now, unsurprisingly, I have a head cold. Plus it’s...
Sometimes google translate gets poetic.

last night, in dream-bullets
- a tornado the size of a city
- sailing a small wooden boat directly into the heart of a storm
- attending a Christian karaoke event in rural Thailand.
If I were @fireland this definitely would have been a Ten Sexy Ladies kind of an evening. Never before has “Jesus wants me for a sunbeam” possessed such raw carnality.
